COMPATIBILITY

A good import starts with the right file.

QFXtoQBO creates Web Connect transaction files for posted USD bank and credit card activity. It does not connect to your bank or write directly to your books.

Supported in this release

  • One checking, savings or credit card account per file.
  • QFX / OFX 1.x SGML and standard OFX 2.x XML bank statement structures.
  • CSV with comma, semicolon or tab separators; with or without column headers.
  • USD with no more than two decimal places, up to 2 MB and 10,000 transactions.
  • UTF-8, Windows-1252 and UTF-16 text decoding. Export uses an ASCII OFX envelope and numeric character entities.

Outside the current scope

PDFs, scanned statements, Excel workbooks, investment accounts, multiple accounts in one file, pending transactions, correction records, currencies other than USD, payroll posting and automatic categorization are not supported. Save Excel data as CSV first. Do not simply rename a PDF or XLSX extension.

Where to find the institution details

Download a recent QuickBooks (.qbo) Web Connect file directly from the same bank and account, ideally one you have already imported successfully. Use “Copy details from a working QBO file” inside the converter. It reads the file locally and copies only its institution fields, not its transactions.

The fields are ORG (institution organization), FID (institution ID), INTU.BID (Intuit Bank ID), and BANKID (routing identifier for bank accounts). A credit card uses a different account structure and does not require BANKID. Keep your account identifier consistent between imports.

These details identify the institution in the file. They are not a bank password, API key or login. If your bank only provides QFX, its identifiers may not be valid for QuickBooks Web Connect. Ask the bank for its current QuickBooks download details. We do not supply a generic bank ID or claim approval by Intuit.

QuickBooks Desktop

Desktop Web Connect imports .qbo files, subject to your edition, service status, bank support and account setup. Discontinued banking services cannot be restored by file conversion. QuickBooks Desktop 2023 banking services ended May 31, 2026.

Release validation: automated file validation is implemented. Real imports into QuickBooks Desktop or Online have not yet been verified for this release. An exported file is not an import guarantee. Test a small date range in a backup copy and reconcile the result.

QuickBooks Online

Online accepts CSV, QFX and QBO uploads. Use its native upload when that meets your need. A .qbo file does not remove all limits or bypass institution and account checks. The developer sandbox does not support file import/export, so it is not an end-to-end import test environment.
